CAPITAL COMMUNITY COLLEGE WILL GRADUATE OVER 500 THURSDAY, MAY 22

Hartford, CT – Capital Community College will award 575 degrees and certificates at the college’s Commencement this Thursday evening, May 22nd at 6pm  in the CT Convention Center’s Exhibit Hall. Student graduates range in age from 18-77, with 29 veterans.

The keynote speaker will be Fulbright Scholar-in-Residence, writer Oonya Kempadoo, who has been teaching Creative Writing at Capital. Kempadoo has written three novels, and her most recent, “All Decent Animals,” was on Oprah Winfrey’s summer reading list last year.

Capital is the only community college in Hartford, and was the first federally-designated Hispanic Serving Institution (HSI) in the state. It is one of the most diverse colleges in all of New England.  Almost all Capital Community College students live and work in Greater Hartford and a majority remain in the city after graduation.
